This restaurant is quite a drive from where I live but for excellent Thai food, it&#39;s well worth the drive. The food is fresh, clean and delicious. Waits are never long. Awesome atmosphere. Friendly, helpful staff. Yum!

Evil Genius Bar &amp; Lair, as soon as I entered the store of this restaurant, I smelled the smell of barbecue. Their seasonings are also secret, which is very in line with the public&#39;s preferences.

The food was delicious, but our waiting process was long. We gave up dessert because we didn&#39;t want to wait. If you are with friends and willing to wait more, then this is good. The restaurant owner/manager is very friendly and will want you to introduce mouth-watering food. If you are not in a hurry, you must try it here.

I like this place. We got off to a bad start after I went to order the banquet only to be told they don&#39;t do it on a Wednesday (there was nothing to explain this on the menu or on the walls but no matter). My table ordered the sharing starter and a range of curry for us all to try. I had the chicken with lentils which was just amazing. I hope it is this good when I visit again. All of the food we had was brilliant.

A good cafe in Christchurch, cheesescone, and Lemonandcreamcheesemuffins are good choices for coffee, and wine and local brewed hreeBoys beer are also sold in the store.

Everytime I have been to Thai Talay has been a great experience. Fast, efficient and friendly service. Great selection of meals and they are always consistent in their quality. Good size servings to satisfy big appetites! Highly recommended !!

We were recommended to go to Thai Talay, which is situated on the Hheathcote Estuary, and so we went in early to catch a bite to eat and catch up at the end of the day. . The first thing that I saw, was an advert for a manager, which to my mind was not a good look on the door, but I guess its a start. We went in and ordered some chicken wings, chicken fillets with Satay sauce, and then ordered the Pad Thai and my wife had the Spicy rice. While we were waiting, I asked the waiter for the password for the internet, and he said that the owner ( who owns nine restaurants ) will not allow the password to be given out ! Bad move in this day and age, because we could have told all our friends where we were dining ! The food came, and the Chicken wings to my mind, were over cooked, however Mrs King was happy with the product. The Chicken Fillets with Satay sauce were cooked previously and were just warmed up on the grill ! I know this because they were cold in the middle ! That was a shame because the Satay sauce was home made, and tasted good. The Pad Thai, well I have always thought, that when you go to a Thai restaurant that you can judge a place on their Pad Thai. At Thai Talay, its a good idea if you eat with your sun glasses on, because the food presentation is sadly lacking, it was just slopped on the plate, with a slice of lemon. I think a large plate, some Coriander garnish and two slices of Lime would have improved the way the meal was presented. The taste was ho hum, nothing to write home about ! Mrs King&#39;s spicy rice was not even spicy, presentation was as bad as the Pad Thai and just slopped on the plate..... Sad really because this was the first time she had taken me out for my birthday and I was looking forward to a magical evening. The service was also an issue, and I felt like asking the waiter if he had had any training ! When the main courses were being brought out, he had not cleared the entree plates ! All in all, an average meal with sloppy service !

There were many things wrong with our experience at Thai Talay. We went there because sometimes you just want a meal NOW, and it happened to be close to where we had been for the afternoon. Its a case of first time equals last time. As others have said, the atmosphere is non existent... it was surprisingly noisy which we initially put down to the concrete ceiling but later realised it was due to the incredibly inappropriate loud thumping electronic music that not only didn&#39;t suit a Thai restaurant, but certainly wasn&#39;t what the majority of the customers wanted either. I am surprised nobody ever complained as most customers were well over 50 and judging by their body language, were struggling to hear each other talk. Not that the (probably under 20 year old) staff would notice since they spent most of their time clustered each side of the main counter talking among themselves rather than tending to the customers. Simple things like serving drinks took ages. And about the drinks... in a country where nearly half the population has diabetes and many are sugar conscious, it was very annoying that the only sugar free drink was diet Coke. Thats not good enough these days. The food was O.K. I&#39;m certainly not raving about any of it. Mine was meant to be Lemongrass flavoured stir-fry chicken. It arrived smothered with so much soy sauce that no-one would know if there was any lemongrass... it had zero taste of it. When I went to pay and leave... I could hardly wait to get out... the staff asked about my meal and had I enjoyed it. I mentioned I thought it bad that they only served diet coke and as a diabetic I wasn&#39;t happy. She smiled and said...&quot;Oh my mum&#39;s diabetic too.&quot; So in my opinion... they should have known better and sorted this one out. I&#39;m not going back.

Great food, great service, great wine list - a nice suburban restaurant - no complaints at all. The food was delicious and as stated on the menu - the portion was very generous and neither of us could finish the main meal - go there when really hungry!
